KUCHING, Aug 12: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian advises the public to be cautious when going outdoors due to the haze.
In a Facebook post today, Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak, said for those who have lung disease, it is advisable for them to take extra precautions such as checking the air quality before going outdoors.
“This includes taking extra medication to help prevent any unnecessary respiratory symptoms,” he said.
On the same note, Dr Sim also calls for continuous alerts from the public to help prevent bushfires.
He said that recently in his Batu Kawah constituency, there have been a few spontaneous bushfire occurrences on the roadside and in empty plots of land.
“Thanks to the high alert from the public, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was able to put out the fire as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary consequences,” he added.
Meanwhile, based on the Word Air Quality Index website report, as of 6pm today, Bintulu recorded the highest air quality index (AQI) in Sarawak with 62, followed by Kuching with 58, and 56 in Samarahan.
Other areas recorded above 50 AQI in Sarawak are Sarikei (53), Limbang (53), ILP Miri (52), and Samalaju (51), while the rest of the districts are below 50 AQI. — DayakDaily
