SIBU, July 23: The organisers of the Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) should open its doors to performers from other countries to elevate the festival to an international stage.
According to Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Michael Tiang, doing so will showcase Sarawak’s culture worldwide and open Sibu’s doors to diverse cultures from other countries.
“Especially in this Asean region where is so much to explore and discover, I believe BCF can be a platform that leads to understanding different cultures in Borneo and Asean countries.
“I also hope we can establish more ‘friendly cities’ with our neighbouring countries,” said Tiang at BCF International Night on Saturday (July 22).
He also called on Sibu Municipal Council to promote more local delicacies at the BCF.
On the first International Night in BCF, he emphasised that it was a great initiative by SMC to elevate the Borneo Cultural Festival to an international status.
“This is where the journey to understand our cultural identity started. So, in a way, BCF holds a special place in our hearts. It has been a symbol of our unity, traditions, and rich heritage,” he said.
The Pelawan assemblyman also wants Sibu to be a hub for future events and a centre for all kinds of conferences with the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway and Second Trunk Road. — DayakDaily
