Deputy Minister urges athletes to train hard, maintain discipline ahead of Sukma 2024

KUCHING, May 30: Athletes are urged to remain focused, maintain good form, and be disciplined and dedicated to their training in the pursuit of gold medals in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) to be hosted by Sarawak in 2024.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu made this call, particularly for the Sarawak Sukma taekwondo team, during a surprise visit to the Sarawak Sukma Taekwondo (WTF) Training Centre in Petra Jaya recently during the first phase PTNS-MSN Sarawak Sukma 2024 centralised training camp hosted by Sarawak Taekwondo Association (STA).

“I want to encourage our athletes to stay in good form, keep training hard, and maintain their integrity and discipline at all times.


“I am looking forward for our Sarawak Sukma Taekwondo teamā€™s performance. I hope we can win as many gold medals as possible in the coming Sukma 2024,” he said in a press release today.

Gerald, who is also the Sarawak chef-de-mission for Sukma 2024, also highlighted the role of officers and coaches in monitoring and evaluating the team’s progress and performance, ensuring that they are on track to achieving their goals.

Accompanied by STA president Azizul Annuar Adenan, Gerald spent time talking to all coaches and some 39 young talents from various divisions in Sarawak.

Also present were STA vice president Then Yit Fui, Sarawak technical chairman Grandmaster Tan Check Joon, Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer-cum-director of Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS) Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, principal assistant secretary Khairul Nizam Morshidi and SSC youth and sports officer Mohamad Ikmal Afandi. ā€” DayakDaily
