KUCHING, May 30: Sarawak’s Energy Transition Policy (ETP) will be ready by the end of this year, says Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

The Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESTY) said the ministry is currently developing the policy.

“If all goes well, (the ministry) will have it ready by the end of this year for the roll-out by next year,” he said in a statement today.

The policy will tackle climate change issues where Sarawak would be focused on clean green energy such as hydropower, solar energy and hydrogen, going forward.

At the same time, Dr Hazland disclosed that the ministry will host the fifth edition of International Energy Week (IEW) from June 13 to 15, at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

With the theme “Transitioning Towards A Net Zero Carbon Future”, the biggest international exhibition and summit for the energy industry in Malaysia will deliberate and explore opportunities in Borneo’s clean energy transition to power the transition and growth towards a net zero carbon future.

In between IEW, MEESTY will also host the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Summit, as Sarawak is ramping up its hydrogen economy. — DayakDaily
