MIRI, June 11: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew had only one person in his thoughts as he got his head shaved at the GoBald event in Miri today: his late wife Datin Sylvia Lim Siew Lee.
“I miss my dear wife (the late Datin Sylvia Lim Siew Lee),” disclosed Ting, when asked to comment on what he was thinking about when he was getting his head shaved by reporters who met him after the programme today.
During the event, Ting could be seen trying to hold back his tears as his hair was shaved.
Ting’s wife Sylvia had passed away on August 28, 2022, after battling cancer for a year.
Ting was among the 74 people who went bald at Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society’s (SCCS) first GoBald main shave event.
He was joined by three local senior journalists—Chai Choon Chin who is the chief reporter for United Daily News and also Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) president, and two NSJA past president Joo Ta Hua and Andy Jong.
This was Ting’s third time participating in the GoBald campaign. He raised RM226,478 in donations.
Datuk Lorna Chan, the wife of former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, was given the honour of shaving Ting’s hair off at the event.
Held at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall, the GoBald event today successfully raised more than RM420,000 in funds with a total of 74 heads shaved, out of which 18 were women. — DayakDaily
