Deputy minister: S’wak JKR’s recognition by Bentley Systems due to digital innovation, sustainability

KUCHING, Aug 8: The Sarawak Public Works Department’s (JKR) proactive approach in adopting Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, utilising eco-friendly building materials, and driving digital transformation are key contributors to the department’s success, including being recognised on international platforms such as the Bentley Systems 2025 Going Digital Awards.

According to a media release, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Sarawak Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said Sarawak JKR has demonstrated extraordinary capability as the nation’s top implementing agency not only in terms of the number of completed projects, but also in terms of quality, impact, and efficiency.

He also praised the recent grand inaugurations of several major infrastructure projects, including the internationally acclaimed Tun Taib Mahmud Bridge.

“The Sarawak government, under the leadership of the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg), remains committed to the development of both rural and urban infrastructure. The substantial funding allocated is a testament to our efforts to build a better future for the people,” he said.

He said this while attending a dinner in conjunction with the ‘Program Majlis Bersama Jabatan (MBJ) Bil. 2/2025 JKR Sarawak’ for the Central Zone in Sibu on Thursday (Aug 7).

“We are flying with the Blue Dream—Sarawak’s grand vision for infrastructure development is becoming a reality. Sarawak JKR must continue to work hard to ensure that this aspiration is fully realised,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak JKR director Dr Cassidy Morris said that the programme to ensure that employee voices are heard and that follow-up actions can be carried out with focus.

He also expressed pride in Sarawak JKR’s recent recognition as Malaysia’s sole finalist at the international level for the Bentley Systems 2025 Going Digital Awards, a global accolade in digital infrastructure engineering.

“I encourage Sarawak JKR officers to seize every opportunity to participate in prestigious international awards. These are not just recognitions, but proof of our capabilities and competitiveness on the global stage,” he said. — DayakDaily
