KUCHING, May 9: Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced that his deputy, Datuk Rentap Gerald Jabu, has been appointed as the official chef de mission (CDM) for the Sarawak contingent for Sukma 2024.
Abdul Karim revealed that Rentap, along with 40 others appointed as his deputies, will lead a team consisting of 70 managers and 139 coaches for Sukma 2024, scheduled to be held in Sarawak from Aug 17 to 24.
In his speech at the ‘Our Star, Our Pride’ 100 Days Countdown to Sukma 2024 Sarawak event at Pullman Hotel today, Abdul Karim commended Rentap’s dedication and leadership, emphasising his commitment to ensuring Sarawak emerges as the overall champion.
He stressed that the target for Sarawak is not just to win but to be the runaway overall champion, highlighting the importance of instilling a winning spirit among athletes.
Abdul Karim underscored the meticulous planning and preparations undertaken by his ministry, through the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSN) and Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), to face this year’s Sukma.
He expressed the aspiration for Sarawak to become a sports powerhouse in Malaysia, paralleling its achievements in other areas.
Present at the event were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being cum Minister-in-Charge of Para Sukma 2024 Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, and Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuk I. — DayakDaily
