MIRI, Aug 27: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has expressed hope to one day see Sarawak’s batik linut worn as official attire by civil servants.
In stating this at the closing of a two-day batik linut workshop in Miri this morning, Ting said as Putrajaya has made it compulsory for all federal civil servants to wear batik every Thursday effective Aug 21 this year, he hoped that Sarawak will do the same.
“Why not? (to consider to make batik linut as official attire for Sarawak civil servants)…Sarawak batik linut is also part of Malaysia batik,” he told the local media.
Lamin Dana Sdn Bhd managing director Diana Rose who was also present at the workshop echoed similar views as Ting.
“Sarawak batik linut is an alternative innovative batik to the (mainstream) Malaysia Batik….and today’s workshop is an outreach programme that we hosted to get the local people involved in Sarawak’s very own batik linut production,” she said.
