DARO, Oct 30: Caretaker Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Ukas), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, has called for the road connecting the Batang Paloh Bridge and Batang Lassa Bridge on Pulau Bruit to be upgraded and widened to ensure smoother land connectivity and improve road users’ convenience.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), he said priorities included widening the road and improving sections affected by land subsidence.
“The road connecting the two bridges on Pulau Bruit, between the Batang Paloh Bridge and Batang Lassa Bridge, should be upgraded and widened,” he said when met by the media after the soft opening ceremony of the Batang Paloh Bridge, officiated by caretaker Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, here today, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He said the bridge opening would benefit not only Pulau Bruit residents but also road users from Mukah, Oya, Dalat, and Bintulu who use the route to travel to Tanjung Manis and other destinations.
In a related development, he said the existing ferry service was planned to be utilised to connect Kedang and Berangan with nearby settlements while awaiting the implementation of a road project linking the areas to Tanjung Manis.
He said the road project had been approved, but its implementation was expected to take between two and three years.
As such, he stressed that improvements to the connecting road network should be given attention to complement the benefits of the new infrastructure and ensure continued improvements to connectivity for residents on Pulau Bruit and surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
