KUCHING, June 16: Progress on the construction of the new Lawas Hospital has reached 60 per cent, said Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) yesterday (June 15), Lukanisman said previously, it was (delayed) due to the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with the geographical factor of Lawas being far away, which caused developers to face difficulties in bringing in construction materials.
“Following that, the Public Works Department (JKR) has extended the Extension of Time (EOT) period for the Lawas Hospital project with a capacity of 76 beds,” he said.
On another note, regarding the requests that were voiced out by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong to expand the land area for the Lawas Hospital, Lukanisman said MOH would look into the matter.
He also said that MOH is focused on ensuring that the new Lawas Hospital has specialist doctors’ services to make getting treatment easier without going through the Brunei border to Limbang and Miri.
“MOH is working with the Sabah Health Department to ensure that Lawas Hospital can receive emergency treatment at the new and operational Sipitang Hospital,” he added.
