KUCHING, Sept 15: Sarawak will be a model for Malaysia in terms of green energy and economy, says Deputy Minister of Finance II Steven Sim Chee Keong.

He noted that Sarawak has begun developing the region’s first green hydrogen hub project and its potential in carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

“When I come to Sarawak, and I look at the list of projects, especially the green projects, then I realise that we are finally going into the economy of the 21st century.

“Sarawak will be a model for Malaysia in terms of green energy, green economy,” he said when speaking at the opening of the Budget 2024 dialogue session at Imperial Hotel today.

The dialogue session is an initiative under the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to collect suggestions and feedback pertaining to Budget 2024 through the ‘Cadangan Belanjawan 2024’ until Sept 22, 2023.

Preparations for Budget 2024 kicked off with the unveiling of ‘Ekonomi Madani: Empowering the People’ on July 27, 2023, which doubles as a pre-budget statement. The framework has set guidance for the unity government’s policy papers to restructure Malaysia’s economy to be placed on a new growth trajectory that is dynamic and equitable.

To date, the policy papers launched to complement ‘Ekonomi Madani: Empowering the People’ are the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP), and the Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan.

These will be followed by Budget 2024 to be tabled by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 13, 2023, which shall provide measures and initiatives that will be implemented next year towards achieving the targets announced by the prime minister at the launch of ‘Ekonomi Madani: Empowering the People’.

All members of the Malaysian public are invited to provide their thoughts and feedback on the ‘Cadangan Belanjawan 2024’ portal by clicking on the link: https://budget.mof.gov.my/ms/. — DayakDaily
