KUCHING, July 14: The National Registration Department (NRD) has reminded Malaysians to not be ‘too creative’ in naming their babies.
In a recent Facebook post, the Department shared its guidelines on unacceptable names for children which included undesirable names or names that do not give a good meaning in Malay language such as ‘bodoh’ (stupid), ‘busuk’ (smelly), ‘harimau’ (tiger), ‘skibidi’ (Gen-A slang) and ‘evil’.
Parents should also avoid giving titles in their baby’s names such as ‘Dato’, ‘Tan Sri’, ‘Puan Sri’, and ‘Haji’.
Parents must also be careful in being too ‘fancy’ and ‘creative’ in the spelling of names that leads to difficulty in pronouncing them such as ‘chuynx’ (Malay slang for sayang), ‘ytjt’ (yang tau je tau), and ‘usyux’ (busuk).
Additionally, the maximum length of characters on birth certificates is 80.

“Can we name our kids ‘mipan zuzu’, ‘Nur Sayunx’, ‘MybabyGirl’, ‘Siti Nurtizen’, ‘Sailormoon’ or ‘Ultraman’?
