“With this joint task force, we strongly believe we can tackle these issues including those in the Sarawak Building Ordinance (SBO) and management of risk efficiently.

“Our public health section will take on cleanliness issue, while engineering section will take building or illegal extensions issues,” Wee said after chairing the first joint meeting between the three local authorities this morning.

Praising the initiative, MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said it was good that the three councils can come together to build a greater Kuching.

“We are able to identify the common issues faced and this is important. From here, we can form common policies to better manage the three councils together. Each of us have our own strength and weaknesses , but when we come together, all these can complement each other as well,” Lo asserted, adding the famous saying ‘united we stand, divided we fall’.

DBKU mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan added that when it comes to cleanliness of Kuching, it should not be individual DBKU, MBKS or MPP but encompasses the whole city

“That is why we proposed for a joint Bulan Kebersihan (Cleanliness Month) Kuching among the three councils next year. We will plan various different activities together for that one whole month before Kuching City Day.

“Actually we’ve planned to do it this year. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we had to postpone it to July next year,” Junaidi said.–DayakDaily
