The meeting opened up discussions on sustainable urban development, including mobility, green infrastructure, circular economy and community empowerment—key areas that both cities are working on as part of their climate action agendas.

Aberdeen’s “Net Zero Aberdeen Routemap” targets carbon neutrality by 2045, guided by six core strategies: Mobility, Buildings and Heat, Circular Economy, Energy Supply, Natural Environment, and Empowerment.

“Through this courtesy call, we also expressed our interest in forming a ‘Net Carbon Friendship City’ partnership with Aberdeen City Council,” he reportedly said.

Accompanying the DBKU Mayor were Deputy Director of Community Services Rudzaimeir Malek and Senior Business Development Manager of the Energy Industries Council (Asia Pacific), Awang Mu’awaludin.

The visit was held in conjunction with the Sarawak delegation’s participation in the Energy Export Conference 2025 in Aberdeen, from June 3 to 4. The delegation was led by Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Also present were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Sarawak Counsel Dr Jady@Zaidi Hassim, SEDC Energy chief executive officer Robert Hardin, Sarawak Energy Vice President Siti Aishah, and General Manager of Sustainability, Mohamad Irwan Aman. — DayakDaily
