MIRI, June 6: Preparations are gaining momentum for the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration, set to take place from July 20 to 22 in Miri Division, with a greater emphasis on broad-based community involvement and inclusive public participation.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, this year’s celebration is led by Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who also chairs the organising committee as the Minister-in-Charge.
The planning efforts were given a boost during the First Main Committee Meeting held on Thursday (June 6) at the Miri Division Resident’s Office.
Various sub-committees presented their preliminary plans during the session, outlining flagship events and major programmes to be rolled out over the three-day celebration. These include community-focused activities designed to bring together people from all walks of life in line with the Sarawak Maju Makmur vision of unity and inclusive development.
Lee called for more detailed coordination at the sub-committee level and instructed each working group to provide progress updates during the next Main Committee Meeting scheduled for June 20.
Among the key areas discussed were safety measures, event logistics, promotion and publicity strategies, and enhanced engagement with the local community to ensure strong grassroots participation.
To ensure a seamless execution, the committee also tabled reports on current progress and task distribution among various stakeholders, adopting a holistic and efficient planning approach.
In keeping with the community-driven spirit of the celebration, an exciting lineup of events is in the works. These include a Sales and Sarawak Talent Carnival, Zumba session, Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony, Unity Walk, and a Townhall session featuring leaders from the State government.
The grand finale of the celebration will be the Sarawak Day Assembly on July 22 at Miri City Stadium, expected to be attended by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
