KUCHING, June 17: The decision to cut down trees lining Jalan Sultan Tengah in Sg Lumut area was made to enable road widening works to take place for the implementation of the Sg Bedaun housing project.

According to Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), a total of 53 trees had to be cut down as they could not be removed because there were cables and water pipes beneath them.

“The cutting down process has received the approval and consent from the State government,” it clarified in a statement today.
