Datuk Kong Island in Sebauh, Bintulu to be gazetted as heritage site

KUCHING, Jan 19: Datuk Kong Island in Sebauh, Bintulu, is in the process of being gazetted as a heritage site under the Sarawak Heritage Ordinance 2019.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the island is one of the identified sites as part of the Sarawak government’s commitment to heritage preservation.

“This island, nestled in the middle of Batang Kemena, will be protected and promoted as a heritage tourism destination,” he said during the ‘Sarawak Folktales For All’ books presentation ceremony held at Baitul Makmur II in Petra Jaya here today.

Datuk Kong Island has a unique oval shape, and on top of it is a temple called ‘Na Tu Kong Temple’.

Apart from these characteristics and the decorations surrounding the temple, the whole island almost looks like a ship.
