KUCHING, Jan 24: The Darul Huda Mosque in Kampung Siol Kandis was officially inaugurated today, with Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiating the ceremony.
Completed on March 10, 2024, the RM5.2 million mosque took over three years to build and stands as a testament to the community’s unity and generosity.
The mosque, with a capacity for 1,200 worshippers, is built on a 4,570-square-meter plot of wakaf land generously donated by the late Tan Sri Abang Khalid Tan Sri Abang Marzuki, Puan Sri Lily Johari, and the late Abdul Rahim Moharif.
The Sarawak government contributed RM3.9 million to the project, while an additional RM1.3 million was raised through wakaf donations from local residents and supporters outside the village.
Featuring modern yet traditional Islamic architecture, the mosque offers a serene and welcoming space for worship and community activities, including religious classes and cultural events.
During the ceremony, Yayasan Bintulu Port donated a hearse van to the mosque, a gesture warmly welcomed by the community.
The event was also attended by Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, and Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi. – DayakDaily
