KUCHING, Feb 16: Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Michael Kong has been appointed Sarawak’s new Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) chairman for a period of three years, effective from Jan 10, 2024.
Kong, who held his inaugural meeting with the director and senior officers of LPKP Sarawak at the Sarawak LPKP Headquarters today, is a legal practitioner at a local law firm here.
During the meeting, he was briefed on the policies and direction of LPKP Sarawak by LPKP director Cornelia Wong Chui.
Meanwhile, in a press statement, Kong said the purpose of this scheduled visit was to familiarise himself with LPKP Sarawak’s operations ahead of the next monthly meeting with fellow board members on Feb 26, 2024.
“As the newly appointed chairman of LPKP Sarawak, it is imperative for me to gain an understanding of the organisation’s mandates, responsibilities, and ongoing initiatives to effectively discharge my duties,” said Kong.
“It is my sincere commitment to ensure that LPKP Sarawak continues to fulfill its mandate of overseeing and regulating commercial vehicles in the state with efficiency and integrity.
“In addition to attending board meetings, I am also aware of the importance of engaging directly with stakeholders to address their concerns and collaborate on initiatives aimed at enhancing the commercial vehicles landscape in Sarawak.
“To this end, I will be organising dialogue sessions with key stakeholders, including e-hailing drivers, lorry owners, and bus operators, in the near future. These engagements will provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by industry players and inform our collective efforts towards driving positive change and improvement,” said Kong. — DayakDaily
