KUCHING, Feb 18: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak has demanded an explanation from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) on the inaction regarding the proposed widening of the feeder road next to Ee Ann City at 7th Mile Bazaar, Kota Sentosa here.

Michael Kong, the special assistant to Chong Chieng Jen, pointed out that it has been close to four months since MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang announced that the feeder road will be widened into a two-lane carriageway to ease traffic flow, but work has yet to commence at the site.

He said Lo had made the announcement in a news report published in a local daily on Oct 26, 2020.

“Following feedback from the shop owners, residents and customers as well as our site inspection, we note that there is no commencement of any kind of road widening work at the site.

“Our checks with the local contractors supervising the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway along Jalan Penrissen were also futile as none of the said contractors seems to be aware of any plans for the said road widening,” he claimed in a statement today.

Kong added that he had written to MPP to follow up on Lo’s announcement while hoping that prompt action can be taken to immediately address the traffic congestion issue at the area.

Meanwhile, Kong had in October last year raised this issue following the partial closure of one exit route along Jalan Penrissen which had aggravated the already bad traffic congestion problem at 7th Mile Bazaar.

He pointed out that the community there had complained about the immense inconvenience with the new traffic flow arrangement which redirected traffic to the already highly congested Jalan Liu Shan Bang.

While noting that shopkeepers and residents have made several complaints to MPP and Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, but he said their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

Lo had then explained that the inconvenience was temporary as with any other infrastructure projects in its implementation stage.

He also stressed that the JKR Sarawak was working hard to complete the current project at Kota Sentosa that would enhance public infrastructures in the area for the convenience of the public.-DayakDaily
