DAP Sarawak urges govt to speed up Covid-19 vaccinations to achieve herd immunity

Chong (centre) and two volunteers from DAP participated in the sanitisation exercise at the Batu Kawa Old Bazaar yesterday (May 24, 2021).

KUCHING, May 25: Sarawak DAP hopes the government can step up the Covid-19 vaccination rollout to achieve herd immunity the soonest.

Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen also hoped that the government will conduct mass screening to trace and detect those with Covid-19 to curb the transmission of the novel coronavirus.

In the meantime, Chong said the party has been assisting the government to perform sanitisation work in Covid-19 infected areas.

“Despite our constraint in resources, we will do whatever we have to help the people in the affected areas.

“Our focus will be on those public places where there are declared confirmed Covid-19 cases or clusters and upon requests by the residents thereof.

“In fact, such sanitisation should be done by the government but sadly, it was not done,” Chong lamented in a statement today.

He said volunteers from DAP Kuching and Stampin helped to carry out sanitisation and fogging exercises at Batu Kawa Old Bazaar and the surrounding commercial areas.

Chong added the sanitisation exercise was the second of such activities carried out by DAP Kuching and Stampin volunteers after the Kenyalang Park Commercial Centre. — DayakDaily
