KUCHING, Feb 10: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak today launched a Tertiary Education Assistance scheme of RM1,500 for first year diploma or degree course students.
Its chairman and Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen said the assistance is available for students residing in Stampin and Bandar Kuching constituencies, based on their identity card address.
According to Chong, each applicants’ parents must also have a combined monthly income not exceeding RM7,000 per month.
“The applicants must also be currently enrolled in any of the local colleges or universities, be it a public or private university.
“These are the four criteria that qualifies a candidate to receive the assistance,” he told reporters during a press conference held at DAP headquarters, here today.
The applicants are required to fill in a form that can be obtained at both Stampin and Bandar Kuching service center.
“For Stampin, I will use my legal firm Chong Brothers Advocate as the service center as well as point of contact,” he added.
Apart from that, he pointed out that other documents required to apply for the assistance are applicants’ phone number, email, income tax returns slip or salary slip or Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) statement of the parents.
He said for second year students, if they wish to apply for it, they have to fill in the form again and attach the necessary document and transcript.
“Of course, like any assistance fund that is being offer, it is subjected to availability of the fund, assuming that we set aside certain amount of funding this year from our allocation, and if next year there is no allocation, we cannot offer this fund.
“For this year, we are expecting about 200 to 300 students to apply,” he said. — DayakDaily
