KUCHING, May 1: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Kapit branch chairman Joseph Jinggut has been appointed by Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) as its State committee member effective today.
Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said Joseph who has both experience and network in the Kapit division shall be tasked to spearhead DAP’s coming election campaign in the division.
“With his vast experience and network in the Kapit division, I am sure that he will be a great help to DAP’s rural drive in Kapit and even throughout the whole of Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.
Noting that DAP has always been a multi-racial party and not “the Chinese party” as alleged by Barisan Nasional (BN), Chong said DAP has, in fact, more Dayak than Chinese members.
Thus, he said, DAP is in need of more Dayak leaders like Joseph to step forth into the Sarawak leadership team.
Believing that the appointment of Joseph is most timely and appropriate, he emphasised that the decision has the unanimous support and approval of the Sarawak State committee.
Joseph is also Kapit Area Farmers Organisation chairman of approximately 7,000 members, the Board of Management of Methodist Primary School Nanga Mujong chairman and Persatuan Kebajikan Penduduk Baleh (PKPB) deputy chairman.
In terms of his qualifications and career, he holds the Bachelor of Economic degree from Westmar University, Iowa, United States of America and was appointed the Kapit District Council chairman from 1987 to 1998.
Thereafter, he was assigned as the political secretary to the then Chief Minister from 1999 to 2003. He has also been the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Kapit division chairman. — DayakDaily
