KUCHING, April 12: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been urged to immediately address the issue of dilapidated drains at Lorong 13D, Taman Flora here.

Special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong, claimed that the accumulated silt soil is about three-inches thick now due to soil erosion.

“This morning, I was contacted by Mr Stewart who stays at Lorong 13D. During my visit, I was shown the dilapidated drains at the common back alley behind his house.

“The current condition of the drains has become so severe that the ground in some areas are showing signs of soil erosion and damage to the walkway,” said Kong in a statement today.

He also said that the local resident, Mr Stewart, raised the issue to MPP several times before and former MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang did visit the drain in March 2022 and spoke about fixing it.

However, Kong said, there has been no action by Lo or the local council until today.

Kong therefore urged MPP, which is now under newly appointed chairman Tan Kai, to take proactive and decisive actions to solve people’s problems.

“This is a grave matter as it involves the damage of personal property, and the risk of further damage to all these homes along Lorong Arang 13D is unacceptable.

“It is imperative that MPP takes immediate action to address this issue and prevent any additional harm to the community’s property,” Kong added. — DayakDaily
