KUCHING, Oct 14: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak has proposed for new entry and exit routes to be constructed along Jalan Penrissen at the Ee Ann City commercial area to resolve the bad traffic condition at Kota Sentosa here.

Special assistant to Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong, revealed that he had submitted the proposal to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and Public Works Department (PWD) for them to consider.

“There is currently a temporary access road, which is being used by the contractors of the Pan-Borneo Highway.

“We urge PMC and PWD to work together to make this road access into a permanent one for the betterment of Kota Sentosa,” he explained in a statement today.

Kong had on Oct 12 complained that the closure of one exit route along Jalan Penrissen had aggravated the already bad traffic congestion problem at 7th Mile Bazaar.

He also pointed out that the community had complained about the immense inconvenience with the new traffic flow arrangement which redirects traffic to the already highly congested Jalan Liu Shan Bang.

“To them (shopkeepers and residents), this is an important matter which has drastically affected their lives.

“We also went around to engage with some of the people who live there or operate their businesses within Kota Sentosa. They also agree that a new entry and exit point should be constructed to Jalan Penrissen and Ee Ann City,” he added.

Meanwhile, MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang, in response to Kong’s earlier complaint today emphasised that the latter should understand that any infrastructure project especially those related to roads may cause temporary inconveniences to road users and the community.

He however said that the benefits will be enjoyed by the general public in the future when the project is completed.

Lo, who is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman, added that Kong should help explain to the general public the importance of infrastructure development instead of causing unwarranted inconvenience by spewing unneeded stress on hardworking public authorities.

He felt that unconstructive and unhelpful criticisms by DAP Sarawak were unnecessary as they will not benefit society. — DayakDaily
