KUCHING, April 30: The Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) is targeting 1,000 participants for its upcoming DAP Fun Run 2025, which will take the form of a hash run through the trails of Kampung Sinar Baru near Prima Semenggoh on Sunday, August 31.

Michael Kong Feng Nian, special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said this year’s event will be bigger than before, building on the momentum of last year’s fun run which attracted over 500 participants.

The event offers three trail run distances: 15 kilometres, 7 kilometres, and 3 kilometres, starting at 9am, 10am, and 11am respectively.

Registration closes on July 15, 2025, but those who sign up by June 15 can enjoy early bird rates of RM40 for the 3km, RM60 for the 7km, and RM80 for the 15km event. After that, normal rates of RM60, RM80, and RM100 will apply respectively.

“All registration fees are inclusive of an event T-shirt and a dinner ticket,” Kong said.

The post-run dinner will be held on the same day at Theatre Hotel, starting at 6.30pm.

To reflect the growing interest and participation, prize money has also been increased.

For the 15km category, first prize is RM1,000, followed by RM800 for second place, RM600 for third, RM400 for fourth, and RM200 for fifth. Runners finishing sixth to tenth will each receive RM100, while those ranked 11th to 15th will receive a RM70 consolation prize.

In the 7km category, cash prizes will be awarded to the top 10 finishers, with RM500 for first place, RM400 for second, RM300 for third, RM200 for fourth, and RM100 for fifth. Those placing sixth to tenth will each receive RM50.

Meanwhile, the 3km event is a non-competitive fun run and does not offer any prizes.

“We welcome registrations both manually and online,” Kong said, adding that the public can sign up using the Google Form available at bit.ly/DAPFunRun2025.

“It’s a great chance to enjoy nature, exercise, and fellowship, all on a Sunday that leads into a public holiday on Monday — so people can rest after a day of activity.”
