SERIAN, Oct 3: The 10-day Danu Lake Festival here is expected to garner over 60,000 visitors with projected total income of RM100,000 for the local community.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the third edition of the festival, after being held in 2018 and 2019, aimed to highlighting Serian as a unique lake city and promoting local products related to food, culture, arts and also agro-tourism.
“The Sarawak government through the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) has channeled allocations for the organisation of tourism activities including this festival as an effort to revive the local economy and income.
“In the meantime, I call on the people of Sarawak to come together and support this festival where various interesting activities are held throughout the 10 days,” said Sabah who is also Tarat assemblyman during the festival’s opening ceremony at Serian Mini Stadium yesterday (Oct 2).
According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report today, apart from the 104 food and beverage stalls available, there are also lucky draws, water sports activities, e-Sports competitions, aerobic exercise for the elderly, entertainment performances, ‘Bike Show’ and the Miss Tourism Danu Serian Competition.
Also present during the opening ceremony were Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus; Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada; Advisor for Education Section in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong; Serian Resident Selamat Jati Yanjah; Serian District Officer Lim Hock Meng; Tebedu District Officer Joseph Liaw and Siburan acting District Officer Ranum Bari. — DayakDaily
