MIRI, Oct 6: A would-be robber got more than he bargained for when he failed to rob a store.

According to sources, a man armed with a knife had walked into a 24-hour convenience store in Lutong around 9am on Saturday.

He threatened the shop workers and demanded they surrender money inside the cash register machine.

However, a customer in the store confronted the would-be robber, causing the latter to flee the shop on a motorcycle.

A police report was later lodged.

A team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) later that same day around 7pm detained a suspect in a house in Kampung Pasir Lutong, following a tip-off of his whereabouts.

Also seized during the arrest were a knife and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the incident.

The 27-year-old suspect has been remanded until October 9 to assist police investigation into the case. — DayakDaily
