KUCHING, Nov 18: Criticism and finger-pointing will not stop me from serving the people and doing the right thing, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

Notwithstanding the endless wave of nitpicking since he was sworn in as mayor in 2019, he said he and his council have and would never stop providing for the people, especially the needy communities.

“I will not let any criticism or finger-pointing make me stop serving the people. I’m here to serve, I don’t care how people are going to criticise me.

“As far as I’m concerned, I just want to do the right thing,” he stressed.

Wee was responding to disapproving voices from certain quarters on social media, alleging that MBKS was being “inconsiderate” by distributing Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) application forms to KMC flat tenants without giving proper assistance.

Complainants said many tenants were clueless about how to fill the forms, on top of the tight deadline of submission in two weeks’ time.

Refuting these claims, Wee said the application forms were prepared in three languages namely Malay, English and Mandarin while guidance from MBKS was readily available.

“For the record, all the people here (KMC flat tenants) know how to approach MBKS. They know the officer who’s handling the property.

“And we have opened Counter 7 at MBKS headquarters just to cater for all this,” he said during the food aid distribution event to 524 tenant families at KMC flats here today.

Meanwhile, Wee said this food aid presentation was the fifth and final wave this year before the Christmas festive season.
