KUCHING, Nov 18: Katibas incumbent Dato Sri Ambrose Blikau Enturan will not be defending his seat in the coming 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12).

According to the Facebook page of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Katibas branch, Blikau, 68, has announced his retirement from politics.

Blikau, who has served the Katibas constituency for more than 40 years brought many developments to the constituency, among them being the Song to Ngungun, Song to Kapit, Banjor to Makut and Makut to Engkuah road projects.

Other development projects include the Song Waterfront, futsal court, community hall, wet market and a new market, which was approved with an allocation of RM4 million.

Many facilities such as the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) headquarters, clinic, school and Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) were also set up in the constituency.

PBB Katibas branch said Blikau was also instrumental in bringing the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (Sares) to the interior residents and the Rural Electrification Scheme (Res) to areas connected to electricity grid.

He was elected as an assemblyman at the age of 26 and has served the Katibas constituency for eight terms.

He first won the seat in 1979 but lost to Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak’s (PBDS) candidate Felix Bantin Jibom in the 1987 Sarawak Election.

In the subsequent Sarawak Election in 1991, Blikau defeated Felix and continued to represent Katibas until the 2016 Sarawak Election.

He once held the portfolio of Assistant Minister of Resource Planning from 1987 to 2000, was also the PBB secretary general and PBB supreme council member.

He had also won the Katibas seat twice uncontested. — DayakDaily
