KUCHING, Oct 7: Festival goers attending the Siniawan Country Music Festival 2023 this weekend who crave Western food should check out a food stall called Toowak Café for some scrumptious, succulent pork burgers.
Located at one end of the old street of Siniawan Heritage Town, it is an ideal spot to grab a bite to eat, where the homemade pork pâté is grilled to perfection by the stall owner, 41-year-old Sam Dillah.
“We want festivalgoers who come to enjoy our food, but we also want it to be reasonably priced for them,” he said when interviewed at the festival venue yesterday (Oct 6).
Hailing from Kampung Podam in Bau, Sam, who is trained in Western culinary, said he is glad to join the rest of the food vendors to take advantage of and to experience more in serving a bigger crowd during the festival.
He said it is also a business opportunity as he hoped to attract customers to his main café at Siniawan Central.
However, despite his optimism and appreciation for being able to participate in this year’s festival, Sam lamented that there were fewer people on the opening day of the festival.
“There should be some form of attraction to make people come early and stay longer. Last year, for example, there were more activities before the music performance started.
“Vendors like us welcome this kind of event, but we hope for more that could make it a win-win situation for everybody, especially enthusiastic festival goers and country music fans who come from far away,” said Sam.
Apart from pork burgers, the stall also serves dishes such as grilled and barbeque chicken, beef and lamb, sausages, and kebabs with French fries and salad side dishes at reasonable prices.
