Covid-19 situation in Samarahan worsens while Beluru improves

KUCHING, March 22: The Covid-19 situation in Samarahan has worsened, pushing the district into red zone status from orange after it reported 41 cases and above in the past two weeks.

At the same time, the Covid-19 situation in Beluru has improved with the district returning to green zone status after recording zero new cases in the past 14 days.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Samarahan reported a total of 48 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days.

SDMC said there were also 16 new cases reported by the district today.

Thirteen red zone districts in the state, namely Samarahan, Sri Aman, Song, Serian, Subis, Julau, Betong, Meradong, Kuching, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu reported a cumulative 2,524 local infections in the past 14 days.

Sarikei is currently Sarawak’s lone orange zone, having reported 21 Covid-19 cases in the past two weeks.

A total of 16 districts consisting of Bau, Mukah, Selangau, Dalat, Limbang, Telang Usan, Tanjung Manis, Kanowit, Belaga, Lundu, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Pusa, Asajaya, Saratok and Sebauh are classified as yellow zones, reporting a total of 121 local infections in the past 14 days.

A Covid-19 yellow zone is a district or zone which reports one to 20 cases in the past fortnight.

Meanwhile, there were 10 districts classified as green zones, namely Beluru, Marudi, Pakan, Matu, Lawas, Daro, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Tebedu and Kabong. — DayakDaily
