Covid-19: Sibu records 3 deaths and 73 cases, highest in Sarawak

KUCHING, Mar 16: Sibu recorded three Covid-19 fatalities today as the town continued to witness the highest daily infections of coronavirus among all the districts throughout the state today.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) the three fatalities in Sibu involved senior citizens aged between 69 and 84, all with comorbidities.


Two of the victims had fever and coughing prior to hospital admission while one was admitted to Sibu Hospital upon tested positive for Covid-19.

All the victims passed away yesterday (March 15).

With the three cases of casualties reported, the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak has risen to 94.

In the meantime, SDMC said Sarawak reported 183 cases of Covid-19 with 73 cases recorded in Sibu, the highest among all the districts in the state.

The other districts which reported new cases include Miri (22), Bintulu (17), Kapit (17), Julau (12), Kuching (12), Meradong (7), Betong (6), Samarahan (4), Sarikei (3), Selangau (3), Saratok (2), Sri Aman (2), Belaga (1), Dalat (1) and Tanjung Manis (1).

The additional new cases reported has increased the number of confirmed accumulative Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 12,885.

Among the 183 new cases, SDMC said only 23 persons were symptomatic.

On another note, there were 204 Covid-19 patients in Sarawak who recovered and were discharged from hospitals while a total of 2,343 Covid-19 patients are still being treated at healthcare facilities and low risk quarantine centre across the state.

SDMC said there were 185 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) and two PUI cases are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
