KUCHING, March 15: The Sarawak government has advised the postponement of public gatherings involving over 50 people.

The new directive was issued by the State Disaster Management Committee today.

“This action is taken as part of the state government’s efforts and measures to mitigate the spread of Covid-19,” the committee said in a statement.

A total of 11 new positive cases of Covid-19 were reported in Sarawak today, bringing the total number to 20 cases since the first three cases were reported on Friday (March 13).

Committee chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said eight cases were reported in Miri and one each in Kuching, Bintulu and Sarikei.

“While the eight cases in Miri are linked to the cluster attending the recent religious gathering in Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, we are still identifying the source for the Kuching, Sarikei and Bintulu cases. The state Health Department is still verifying the source,” he said.

He added his committee has set up a special task group to track down over 400 travelers flying into the state through the four main airports between March 2 and 5, from Kuala Lumpur. — DayakDaily
