KUCHING, March 26: A maritime training centre at Lorong Desa Senadin in Lutong Miri is one of two new Covid-19 outbreak areas being declared in Sarawak today after 29 new cases were detected overnight.

This thus led to creation of a community cluster dubbed Lorong Desa Senadin in Miri.

The State Disaster Management Committee, in its daily update report on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that this cluster involved two districts of Miri and Mukah.

The index case or Case 12,919 involved a 22-year-old trainer at the centre who was detected from symptomatic screening on March 15 in Miri Hospital.

It was believed that he could have been infected through casual contact from the community between March 1 and 14.

Further investigation and contact tracing on close and casual contacts have found 29 more people have been infected with Covid-19.

As of today, a total of 173 individuals have been screened whereby 59 were negative while 84 are still awaiting for lab test results.

Of the 30 positive cases, 29 of them are isolated and treated at the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Miri while one in PKRC Mukah.

Meanwhile, with two more clusters declared, Sarawak now has a total of 33 active clusters, out of which eight clusters have Ā reported an increase in daily infections today.
