Covid-19 claims three Sarawakian lives, state reports 221 new cases

KUCHING, March 6: Coronavirus has claimed yet another three Sarawakian lives in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu today, with all of them under the age of 60 but with comorbidities.

With that, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 statement today reported a death toll of 87 to date.

Fatality case number 85 was a 42-year-old male in Miri who went for treatment after experiencing fever and coughs.

Case 86 involved a 53-year-old male who was admitted into Bintulu Hospital from a private hospital when his rapid test kit antigen results were positive for Covid-19.

The 87th death case in Sarawak was a Sarawakian female in Sibu, aged 58, who was also admitted into the hospital after suffering from coughs and fever for several days.

Three of these cases were confirmed to have passed away yesterday (March 5) and had medical histories such as ischemic heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, gout, dyslipidemia, obesity and high blood pressure.

Meanwhile, Sarawak also recorded a total of 221 new cases in 15 districts today.

They are in Sibu with 79 cases, Bintulu (33), Betong (32), Kuching (17), Kapit (12), Julau (10), Serian (10), Meradong (8), Miri (5), Sebauh (5), Bau (3), Selangau (3), Pusa (2), Sarikei (1) and Tatau (1).

Out of the total, 122 were from close contact screenings across 11 districts namely in Sibu (48), Bintulu (30), Kapit (11), Serian (10), Meradong (6), Sebauh (5), Miri (3), Bau (3), Selangau (3), Pusa (2) and Kuching (1).

Other than that, 23 cases were reported from those who went for swab tests at health centres in Sibu (17), Kuching (5) and Miri (1).

Today, 21 symptomatic cases were found across the state with 13 cases in Sibu, three cases in Bintulu and one each in Betong, Kapit, Miri, Sarikei and Tatau.

Only one health officer in Sibu health facilities was registered to have been infected with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Moving on, there was a total of 54 new cases related to active clusters in the state today.

The clusters with new cases are the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster (31), Emperoh Jambu Cluster (11), Bukit Tunggal Cluster (10) and Sungai Bakong Cluster (2).

With 221 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 10,895.

Adding on, SDMC also noted 258 recoveries across the state namely in Sibu Hospital (107), Bintulu Hospital (58), Sarawak General Hospital (48), Sarikei Hospital (18), Kapit Hospital (9), Ā Sri Aman Hospital (8), Miri Hospital (7) and Betong Hosital (3).
