Covid-19 case total for 3-week-old Sg Bakong secondary school cluster rises to 198

KUCHING, March 14: In just three weeks, Covid-19 cases traced back to the secondary school cluster in Sungai Bakong, Meradong has reached a total of 198 cases.

The cluster’s tally saw four more new infections today, according to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).


A total of 1,533 individuals have been screened where 1,335 tested negative, with zero samples pending test results.

SDMC also announced that Sungai Bakong was among 12 of 29 active clusters in Sarawak that registered an increase in daily Covid-19 infections today.

Except for the newly declared Begalak Cluster related to a logging camp settlement in Song which recorded 21 new cases, the other clusters only reported single-digit increases.

Sarawak’s biggest cluster, Pasai, picked up three cases today; Gelong, Emperoh Jambu, and Sena found two new cases each; while Jalan Main Bazaar, Melor, Kiba, Bukit Tunggal, Jalan Muhibbah and Kampung Sungai Maong recorded one case each.

With that, the number of cases from active clusters in the state today came up to 40 cases.

Of the 29 active clusters, 17 clusters did not report any new cases today. They were Buluh Pasi in Meradong; Jalan Awang, Geronggang and Mas Merah in Sibu; Buloh in Selangau; Jalan Ho Pin and Univista in Samarahan; Jalan Green in Kuching; Kejatau and Sebangkoi in Sri Aman; Jan Yong in Kapit; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng in Bintulu; Nanga Lijan in Julau; Seruas in Beluru; Tabong in Bau and Rakut in Miri as well as sub-cluster Tangap in Subis. — DayakDaily
