KUCHING, March 20: Sarawak recorded seven new Covid-19 positive cases today, bringing the total to 58 since the first three were detected on March 13, 2020.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said all the new cases were being treated in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“All of the cases are recorded in Kuching, where four of them are from the Ijtimak cluster, two from church cluster, and one more is still being investigated,” he said during a live press conference on Covid-19, today.

He added that the SGH laboratory was doing its best to expedite the testing process, and from a total of 714 Person Under Investigation (PUI) cases reported, 58 of them were positive.

Meanwhile, Uggah also said that State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) had decided that all fast food outlets (KFC, Pizza Hut, Sugar Bun, McDonald’s, including drive-through outlet) would be allowed to operate until 8 pm, including all supermarket outlet chains.

“However, all departmental stores such as 7-Eleven, KK Mart and petrol station will be operating as usual, and this directive will be effective starting on March 21, 2020,” he said.

At the same time, Uggah also revealed that Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) will be assisting the Sarawak government through “Digital Tracking” in its effort curb Covid-19 outbreak.

According to Uggah, through its application, SMA will identify those who have undergone home-quarantine, and will provide a digital mapping on Covid-19 hotspots.

“SMA will use its application to detect and provide the committee with a monitoring facilities, for example, a monitoring equipment that can be worn on the body.

“For the hotspots, we will come up with a map. For example, in the pastor case, we want to know about the other functions that he had attended before he was confirmed positive, and from there we can track the origin of the hotspots and we will also inform the public on the matter,” he said.—DayakDaily.
