KUCHING, March 20: The wife and father of Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, who were in close contact with him, have been tested negative of Covid-19.

Despite the results, the DAP lawmaker said his family members have practiced self-quarantine for 14 days as a precaution.

“Today, the Health Department confirmed that my wife and father were tested negative for the virus.

“Even with the results, my whole family will practice self-isolation for 14 days to take extra precautions against the spread of the virus during this Movement Control Order (MCO),” he said in a statement today.

Dr Yii was tested positive for Covid-19 on March 16 and has been placed under quarantine at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“This is the fourth day I have been quarantined in the isolation ward. The doctors are planning to do another test for me soon and once the result of that test is out, they will make a decision on the next course of action,” he explained.

Dr Yii expressed his appreciation to the medical personnel attending to him while he is being hospitalised.

“Since Day 1, all the healthcare professionals have been very helpful and professional throughout.

“I would like to encourage members of the public to remain calm through this difficult period and continue to abide by MCO regulations, while also take all the necessary precautions.

“Stay home, stay hydrated, monitor for symptoms and continue to boost your immune system,” he advised.

Dr Yii, who was tested positive for Covid-19 on March 17, had said that he was in close contact with his colleague, Sarikei MP Andrew Wong Bing Liu, on March 2. Wong had been tested positive for Covid-19.
