MIRI, April 8: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) received 1,000 face masks to enhance their members’ safety while covering the news during the movement control order (MCO) which has been in force since March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The masks were donated by Senator Alan Ling and received by NSJA president Andy Jong on behalf of the association.

“Despite facing the current global Covid-19 outbreak, the media will continue to play an important role as one of the frontliners in delivering the latest and accurate information to the public,” he said when contacted via WhatsApp video call today.

He added, during the MCO period, journalists have been reminded to undertake all forms of precautionary measures while carry out their duties daily.

Thus, Jong said, basic protection supplies such as face masks and hand sanitisers are crucial items required by the media when carrying out their work.

He disclosed that NSJA has also provided a bottle of hand sanitizer and face mask to each media representative in this district for their protection.

“We are still waiting for our pre-ordered face masks and once the supplies have arrived, we will distribute to each of the media representatives immediately,” he added.

Jong also thanked Ling for his contributions to the NSJA.

Earlier, NSJA also received face mask donations from Dr Ting Tiong Choon, who is a political secretary to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen on Feb 18, and also from the Youth of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association. — DayakDaily
