Couple surrendered to JAIS for committing khalwat

MIRI, Jan 12: A couple was surrendered to JAIS for suspicion of committing ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) early Saturday morning at Jalan Peninsula nearby Kampung Pulau Melayu.

The couple, aged 31 and 27 respectively, were found and arrested by patrolling members of a Resident Committee (RC) from Pujut, Krokop, Permyjaya, Saberkas and Pujut at around 1.55am.


They both have been handed over to the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) for further action.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the man was already married with four children, while the woman was single. This would be the couple’s second time being arrested for the same offence.

Prior to the discovery, the patrols were conducting a routine check within the area. The residential areas have been repeatedly times facing house breaking incidents and worried residents called up RC crews to come and monitor the surrounding.

In response to a request call, the patrolling team strolling around the area, until they spotted a suspicious car parked in a secluded area.

According to sources, the crew became suspicious and walked slowly towards the car, as they saw movement. However, it turned out to be the couple sitting inside the car with no lights on. — DayakDaily
