KUCHING, Feb 10: The Miri City Council (MCC) is seeking funds from the National Landscape Department (NLD) to improve the Miri Public Park (Taman Awam Miri).
In a statement, MCC revealed that funds are needed for facilities and landscaping and beautification works.
According to the council, its latest effort to secure funds was in mid-January this year, when the council’s delegation presented the justifications to the National Landscape Department in Kuala Lumpur.
It revealed that the popular 24.6-acre park area was developed in 1997, and the council constantly experienced constraints in obtaining enough funds for its maintenance.
Meanwhile, the council will continue with its annual maintenance works in the landscaping area and the water feature and the children’s water-play area.
For safety reasons, the council decided that the children’s playground section next to the food and drinks stall area shall be temporarily closed to enable repair and maintenance works to be carried out.
Meanwhile, under the annual budget and mid-term review, the council would utilise its Council Reserve Fund for this park while waiting to hear about its fund application to the NLD. — DayakDaily
