KUCHING, Feb 20: Coronavirus has claimed the lives of yet another four Sarawakians in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu today, pushing the total tally up to 73 cases.
According to the reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the four fatality cases involved Sarawakians aged between 45 to 77 years old.
The four cases were confirmed to have passed away between yesterday (Feb 19) and today and had medical histories of high blood pressure, diabetes, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRF), chronic liver disease and dyslipidemia.
On new Covid-19 cases, 15 districts saw rise in figures namely Sibu (53), Bintulu (19), Kuching (15), Kapit (12), Samarahan (10), Song (8), Miri (4), Bukit Mabong (3), Selangau (2), Sri Aman (2), Sebauh (2), Bau (1), Julau (1), Meradong (1) and Belaga (1).
Out of that, 45 cases were from close contact screening where Sibu reported 22 cases, Bintulu eight, Kapit eight, Kuching three, Samarahan three and Bau one.
Those who went to health centres across Sarawak for swab tests and found themselves positive for the virus were detected in Sibu with 14 cases, Kuching (5), Bintulu (2), Samarahan (2), Miri (2), Meradong (1) and Belaga (1).
For symptomatic cases, six were registered in Sibu while the other eight were scattered in Bintulu (3), Kapit (2), Selangau (2) and Miri (1).
Meanwhile, the number of positive cases among medical staff increased again today, infecting one each in Sibu and Miri.
One returnee from Kuala Lumpur was found positive for Covid-19 in Kuching while two cases were recorded in Sebauh relating to areas under the Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO).
Moving on to active clusters, cases of the Pasai Cluster were found in Sibu (10), Song (8) and Kapit (2).
Rakut Cluster was detected in Bintulu (6) while the Jalan Green Cluster registered six cases in Kuching.
Similarly related to active clusters, Samarahan reported five cases involved with the Univista Cluster and Bukit Mabong recorded three cases linked to the Gelong Cluster.
At the same time, one new case in Julau was traced back to the Nanga Lijan Cluster and another two cases in Sri Aman to the Kejatau Cluster.
With 134 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 7,758.
SDMC, in its daily Covid-19 statement, also reported 100 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sibu Hospital (50), Kapit Hospital (15), Miri Hospital (15), Bintulu Hospital (7), Sarikei Hospital (7) and Sarawak General Hospital (6).
In the meantime, 2,077 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.
There are 196 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases and five cases awaiting laboratory test results.
There are also 401 person-under-surveillance (PUS) who were registered into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined, and a total of 5,130 individuals under quarantine in 84 hotels throughout Sarawak while 66,274 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine.—DayakDaily
