SIBU, July 28: Police believe they have solved a number of thefts involving solar street lamps in Sungai Pak with the arrest of two men.
The duo, aged 32 and 35, had admitted to stealing solar street lamps worth RM11,300.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkifli Suhaili said at a press conference today that the suspects were detained following numerous police reports made by members of the public.
“The police had on June 30 received a report from the public involving the theft of solar lights installed along the road from Sungai Pak to Sungai Lukut,” he said.
The next day on July 1, another four reports were received by the police on the same matter.
ACP Zulkifli said as a result of the investigation and quick action by the police, two men were successful detained on July 24.
The suspects were seen driving a car in a suspicious manner.
“We managed to seize three sets of solar street lamps from the suspects. Both admitted to the theft which they claimed were for personal use in their house garden,” he said.
A urine test on the suspects came back positive for methamphetamine.
ACP Zulkifli said both suspects have previous records under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 12(2) of the same Act, theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 447 of the Penal Code.
“As a result of this arrest, we have succeeded in solving a number of theft cases involving public facilities in the said areas,” he stressed. ā DayakDaily
