Cops dismiss viral claim of student kidnapping attempt in Limbang

KUCHING, Oct 17: Police have denied allegations of an attempted kidnapping involving a student at a primary school in Limbang, which have been circulating on WhatsApp since Thursday (Oct 16).

Limbang District Police Chief, Supt Parum Niot, said initial investigations found no reports or incidents of an attempted kidnapping as claimed in the viral message.

“The public is advised not to speculate on the matter in ways that could cause unnecessary concern among the community.

“The police would like to assure the public that security control at all school areas is continuously monitored, and preventive measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of students and school staff,” he said in a TVS report.

Parum also reminded the public not to spread false information that could disrupt public order, and warned that strict action can be taken under existing laws against those who do so.

He added that Limbang police will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action against individuals who spread unverified information.

“The public is advised to refer only to official channels of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) before believing or sharing any information.

“Any suspicious information can be directed to the Limbang District Police Headquarters at 085-211490 (Limbang IPD Operations Room) or any nearby police station,” he added. — DayakDaily
