KUCHING, Jan 8: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has warned the contractor responsible for the drainage upgrading project in front of SMK Jalan Arang to finish up the work by January 15, 2019.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said the RM900,000 project has been delayed for three months now, and during the council’s meeting with the contractor end of last year, the contractor promised the project would be completed by January 15, 2019.

“Regrettably this drainage upgrading project has passed its deadline and the contractor has promised to speed up their construction works.

“Since the end of last year, MPP has had two meetings with the contractor to push for project completion,” he said in a statement after a site visit with Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian yesterday (Jan 7).

Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, said the project is financed by the state government as part of its flood mitigation initiatives.

Upon completion, the project would help ease flash flooding in and around the school, he added. — DayakDaily
