Contractor dies during cable installation after experiencing breathing difficulties on hill in Kampung Kuang, Siburan

KUCHING, Aug 29: A tragic incident unfolded in Kampung Kuang, Siburan, after a 53-year-old man died after losing consciousness on a hill.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the incident occurred today, with an emergency call received at 3.40pm.

Bomba Sarawak responded promptly, dispatching a team from the Siburan Fire Station.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander was informed that a contractor involved in cable installation had experienced difficulty breathing.

“The rescue team, consisting of six personnel from the Simpok Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS Simpok), eight contractors from Sacofa Sdn Bhd, and several local villagers, embarked on a challenging six-kilometre trek to reach the location, navigating steep and rugged terrain.

“Upon reaching the victim, the operation commander assessed the situation and found the man unconscious. Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel immediately initiated CPR, but the victim showed no signs of life,” read the statement.

The team then carefully transported the victim down the hill using a stretcher.

Upon reaching the base, medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (KKM) confirmed that the man had passed away.

His body was handed over to the police for further action.

The deceased has been identified as Siva A/L Sundram from Ipoh, Perak.

The operation concluded at 6.26pm.

Agencies involved in the operation included the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) with three personnel, the Ministry of Health with three personnel, and the Simpok Volunteer Fire Brigade with six personnel. — DayakDaily
