KUCHING, Aug 7: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is advising consumers to purchase the Covid-19 self-testing kit which has been approved by the Malaysia Device Authority (MDA).
KPDNHEP in a statement today said recently they have received complaints from consumers regarding the Covid-19 self-testing kit which is being sold at RM60 per unit at a pharmacy in Terengganu.
According to the ministry, investigations found that the pharmacy has obtained the supply of the Covid-19 self-testing kit from another pharmacy in Pahang.
“The inspection also found that the pharmacy is complying with the price tagging on the goods to enable consumers to make a purchasing decision based on the price displayed, because until now, the Covid-19 self-testing kit is not listed as Controlled Goods,” it said.
Upon further inspection, KPDNHEP disclosed that the pharmacy in Pahang, which supplied the self-testing kit, is not among the six companies approved by the authorities to distribute and sell the kit to the public.
“As such, KPDNHEP will submit the finding of the investigation to the responsible authority, namely the MDA for further action as it is not under the ministry’s jurisdiction,” it added.
For consumer reference, the approved companies and products are listed in the official MDA website at https://portal.mda.gov.my/. — DayakDaily
