KUCHING, April 1: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap cautions all employees to consult the Social Security Organisation (Socso) before making an abrupt decision to resign due to health-related work issues.

According to a press release, Yap, along with Socso director Tan Phang Chia and officers, paid a visit to Madam Boon, a former supermarket chief cashier, and her husband at their Stampin Resettlement Scheme residence today to offer assistance.

Yap explained that Madam Boon’s relative had earlier in a distress plea through Kapitan Chai Yong Liang requested the former to assist in her application for invalidity pension from Socso and financial assistance to cover her medical expenses.

“Madam Boon used to work as a chief cashier at a supermarket until last year, but she resigned due to health issues she was experiencing after her husband suffered a stroke, causing him mobility and partial blindness.

“Madam Boon and her husband are unable to provide for their family’s living expenses as a result of the stroke, and they are relying on donations and assistance from relatives and friends,” he said.

Yap went on to say that during the visit, Socso officers interviewed Madam Boon and her husband in order to obtain the necessary information and documents to assist them in applying for Socso benefits.

“Socso officers also promised to help Madam Boon’s only son, who passed SPM, find a job through Socso’s ‘MYFutureJobs’ portal,” he added.

He said if any employees or workers are experiencing health issues that may impact their ability to work, it is recommended that they reach out to Socso for guidance and support.

“It is important for them to seek advice from Socso before making any decisions about resigning due to health issues.”

Yap also reaffirmed his commitment to serving the community in his constituency of N12 Kota Sentosa by actively participating in problem-solving rather than simply raising issues through media channels.

“Certain politicians have recently made a habit of issuing statements on social issues while deflecting responsibility by blaming the authorities in the media,” he pointed out without naming anyone.

He hoped such politicians would change their ways and concentrate on assisting the public in resolving their problems and predicaments through proper and official communication of the issues and problems directly to the relevant authorities. — DayakDaily
