KUCHING, March 28: A construction site cleaner was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of a woman in a rented room in Batu Kawa on February 5.
Mohammad Amin Abdullah, 25, was brought before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to face the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He is accused of intentionally causing the death of Noraliza Suhaili, 36, inside a rented room at MJC, Batu Kawa, at around 6pm on February 5.
If convicted, he faces the death penalty or imprisonment for a minimum of 30 years and up to 40 years. If not sentenced to death, he will also receive no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.
No plea was recorded as Deputy Public Prosecutor ASP Arman Ibrahim informed the court that the chemistry report for the case was still pending.
The court has set May 15 for case management and the submission of the chemistry report. Meanwhile, the accused will remain in remand until the next hearing.
It was revealed that the accused has a prior criminal record related to a rape case under Section 376 of the Penal Code in 2018.
Following today’s court proceedings, about six of the deceased’s family members were present in court.
The victim’s eldest sister revealed that the victim was married and had two children, aged 12 and 14.
Earlier reports stated that the victim’s body was discovered in a rented room with a cloth tied around her neck at around 2pm on February 6. — DayakDaily
